What is the
Macon-Doubler Fellowship
The Macon-Doubler Fellowship is a scholarship awarded by Uncle Dave Macon Days to ensure the perpetuation of old-time music and dance. This mission is accomplished by providing a set amount of funding to a beginning musician or dancer to pay for lessons by a
qualified instructor in the field of their interest.
This award can be won by either an adult or child, the criteria being that the recipient is a beginner with a desire to learn a traditional acoustic instrument or dance style.
Application deadline is Oct 1 of each year. A single page essay is required explaining
why applicant wants to learn this skill and how they think it
will enrich their life.
History of the
Macon-Doubler
Fellowship
Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Doubler and family have given the seed money for the project. The Doubler family has volunteered and been long-time supporters of the festival. Mrs. Wren Doubler is the granddaughter of Uncle Dave Macon. Additional money has been provided by the NARAS (National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences) Foundation in the form of a Discover GRAMMY® Festival grant.
The formal announcement of the award and criteria was made at the Uncle Dave Macon Days Festival, on July 10, 1998 at Cannonsburgh Village. A committee has been formed and is in the process of writing the guidelines.
