Dr. Mike Doubler, president of the Macon-Doubler Foundation, awards Meredith Craig the 2014-2015 Macon-Doubler Fellowship scholarship. She will use the scholarship to study old time banjo.MaconDoubler1

The Macon-Doubler Fellowship is an endowed scholarship started in 1998 by the family of the late Alvin Doubler and his wife, Mary Macon Doubler, granddaughter of Uncle Dave Macon.  Additional funds came from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Science Foundation, in the form of a Discover GRAMMY Festival Grant and other supporters.

It is administered by Uncle Dave Macon Days with the mission of continuing old-time music and dance.  Winners receive funding to study with a qualified teacher to learn a traditional, acoustic instrument or dance style. This award can be won by any age, the criteria being that the recipient is a beginner

Application deadline is Oct 1 of each year. A single page essay is required explaining why applicant wants to learn this skill and how they think it will enrich their life.
